I have heard that the difference between "demonstration on" and "demonstration of" is as follows:

1. Demonstration of: This means specific information will be provided during the demonstration. For instance, everything about how to work a washing machine.
2. Demonstration on: This means a generic information will be provided during the demonstration. For instance, about the working of washing machines at large.

Is this correct? Or is the difference something else? If yes, then what is that difference.

I haven't given it much thought before, but I think OF is used for a specific skill, ability, characteristic:

Lifting the 100kg weight was a great demonstration of his strength.

"ON" is used for subject matters/themes/topics:

There was a demonstration on the use of a new type of cleaning product.
