    On, In or Under

My teacher told us to imagine about things in the future. My friends had written that "There will be cities in the sea".
But she said we could only use "on the sea".
can we use "in" and "under"? which is better?

    Re: On, In or Under

    Hi,

In my opinion 'cities in the sea' is much better and the teacher is wrong to say you can only use 'on'.

There's also the question of context and actuality. Does the writer mean that there will be underwater cities, and in which case 'under' is surely the best.

    Regards

Of course there may be cities in, under or on the sea. And whether one is using imagination or not such things can be written about.

If world population continues to grow as at present then, as well as the problems of food and water, we may well see the need for and development of cities in unusual places. There has been some experimentation using living pods under the sea.

If the cities were floating, I would still use in the sea rather than on the sea, so I also disagree with the idea of only using on.
