Dear teachers...

Salve salve!!!

Could you please shed some light on this? Am I right in interpreting the following?

to get behind with = be late in paying instalments for something.
Don't get behind with the payments, otherwise you will lose your car.

to get behing = postpone something you could do in time.
Don't get behind your homework, otherwise you won't go up to the next level.

Thank you!

" get behind with" is not only used for payments. It can be used for work and many other things.

Don't get behind with the payments, otherwise you will lose your car.

to get behind = postpone something you could do in time. It's not necessarily because you postpond it.
Maybe it's because you were just too busy.

Don't get behind with your homework, otherwise you won't go up to the next level.
"Don't get behind with......., otherwise......." is not correct grammar.
'Don't get behind with your payments, or you will lose your car.' :tick:

'Keep up with your payments, otherwise you will lose your car.' :tick:

So, 'do not get behind your homework, or you will have to stay here one more year' is fine?

Thanks

Now it is crystal-clear:

To get behind with - have not done as much work or made as many payments as one should have
She’d been sick so often that, she was getting behind with her schoolwork.

To get behind - support an idea, project, etc., or help someone in what they are trying to do
She claims the publishers never really got behind her new book.
