    make the switch

    Hi

    Does "make the switch" mean to change something into something else?

    For example:

    They make the switch somewhere en route and some of the boxes ......

    It could be into something/somebody else or it could be to exchange something/somebody.

    As it says boxes, it sounds as if they changed boxes containing something they wanted for boxes with something worth, fake, etc, less in them on the journey.
