    enough and sufficient

    Hi there,

    Are 'enough' and sufficient mean the same? Are they interchangable?

    The meanings overlap to a large extent. Just don't, whatever you do, combine them!

    PS Maybe this needs some explanation. Adjectives are often followed by 'enough' - big enough, tall enough, wet enough etc. Some [ab]users have taken this trick to [and beyond] the limit, and say 'sufficient enough'

    Is it then correct to say that using sufficient would change the word order?

    Like this:
    He is tall enough to reach it. = He is sufficient tall to reach it.

    Sufficiently tall. But that is not how we would talk or write. Hence this is one example where enough is the right word to use.
