    by far

    Hi,

How to understand the "by far" in this sentence?

Both poisons are unpleasant, but by far the more unpleasant is the blood poison.

    Thanks a lot

    Hi silverobama,

by far = a long way off, far removed, incomparably, out and away, a great many,

In this fratricidal struggle, the North possessed by far the greater potential strength in nearly every respect

    Re: by far

The blood poison is a lot worse than the other one.
