    be warned

Please check the following sentence. Is it acceptable?

They are warned that Christian is now a wild lion, maybe it doesn't recognize them any more.

    Re: be warned

    No, it's not acceptable.

The comma should be a semicolon.

    Smile Re: be warned

I try to rewrite it as written.

They got a warning that Christian is now a wild lion, and it maybe doesn't recognize them any more.

    Re: be warned

They were warned that Christian is now a wild lion, and that he may not recognize them any longer.

(I read their book, by the way. It was very entertaining.)
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
