    is and was

    Hello,

English is my first language, but this question of mine kinda confused me in way...

My question is whether these two sentences are grammatically correct?

    1. The project is accepted.
    2. The project was accepted.

The last word in both sentences ie. 'accepted' is a past tense, since it ends with -ed. So must it be was accepted to show it is a past tense?

Or can it be is accepted? Even though accepted is a past tense but the word is indicates a present tense.

    Please help and thank you!
I would love explanations with all the technical terms and such...

    Welcome!
    1. The project is accepted. That's an announcement, just like 'The motion is defeated.'
    2. The project was accepted.

So you can consider "(is) accepted" to be an adjective or to be an announcement of what the (result of the vote)(decision) is. They are pretty much the same thing.

Many past tense verbs and (continuous)(progressive) tense verbs can also be adjectives.

    That is an accepted method.
