    Usage of while

    Hi

    These are the two examples: He had become more confident while becoming less anxious.

    2) Since the paper was available, he grabbed it to place his stuff while also reading from it.

    Although past or past perfect, can 'while' be used to indicate simultaneity of actions?

    Yes, you can use "while" with those tenses.
    Your sentences are a bit awkward (especially 2.) but the principle is correct.
