    "Cut school/cut class" means to be absent without a valid excuse. A much older term, "play hookey" has the same meaning.

    Even though "cut" school or class would be understood in my neck of the woods (suburban Detroit area), we always used to say "skip" school or class. (Not that I ever did such a thing....)
