    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    Abdalla Ali,

    (1) a prepositional phrase that acts as an adjective usually

    modifies (belongs to) a noun:

The boy with brown eyes. (The p.p. -- prepositional phrase --

    modifies "boy." Describes the boy.)

The girl in the chair. (Not the girl on the sofa.)

The gift for you. (This is not a gift for Tom.)

    *****

    (2) A prepositional phrase that acts as an adverb usually modifies

    a verb:

I sweep the floor with a broom. (The p.p. tells you what I use in order

    to sweep.)

I eat breakfast in the kitchen. (Where do I eat?)

She works for the government. (She does not work at a restaurant.)

If you have more questions, just post them here. The teachers -- and

non-teachers -- will be very happy to answer you.

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****
