can anyone tell me what is the difference between the following two sentences and when to use these sentences..
1) I have been to America.
2) I left for America

1) I have been to America. At some time in my life I have visited America. This visit is part of my life experience.
2) I left for America. Only acceptable if you and/or your listener/reader have in mind the specified past time of your departure from X for America.
