    ever

    1. Did you cat ever caught a mouse?

Yes, it ever caught a mouse.

I have been told that 'ever caught' cannot be used in the reply.

    2. My teacher ever told us to study hard.

I believe the above sentence is wrong. So, could someone please correct the sentence for me?

    Many thanks.

Yes, it once caught a mouse.
Yes, it has caught a mouse.
Yes, it has caught many mice.
No, it has never caught a single mouse.

My teacher once told us to study hard.
My teacher is always telling us to study hard.
My teacher has never told us study hard.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: ever

    Also:

The original question would be better as "Has you cat ever caught..." not "Did you cat ever catch...?"

Yes, it ever caught a mouse. Yes, it has caught a mouse.

I have been told that 'ever caught' cannot be used in the reply. You've been taught correctly.

    2. My teacher ever told us to study hard.

I believe the above sentence is wrong. So, could someone please correct the sentence for me? It's not clear what you want to say. It can be changed to "My teacher never told us to study hard" or "My teacher always told us to study hard." (I hope it was the latter.)

    Many thanks.

    Re: ever

My teacher ever told us to study hard.
This sentence is possible but the use of "ever" to mean "always" is rather archaic.
