    prepositions

Hi, Something i've always found difficult to understand is the use of in and at when talking about places, for example: I'm at the hospital or I'm in the hospital; i'm at a party or in a party. Is there a rule or are expressions i need to remember? thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
You could say "I am at the hospital" to mean that you were visiting somebody or attending a clinic etc. "I am in the hospital" (AmE) or "I am in hospital" (BrE) means that you are a patient receiving treatment.
"I am at a party" is usual.
