Wink replace has instead of have?I'm confused

    Hi, again.
Kindly correct this. I thought when we describe two different things, we should use plural format for "has". But my friend said this does not always hold true. You must look at the whole idea of that sentences.

    example:

Impairment of growth and cognitive development has been recorded in several studies in Brazil, Peru, and Guinea-Bissau.

In this sentence, wouldn't growth and cognitive are supposed to be plural and has should be replaced by have?

    regards

    No.

The subject of the sentence is "Impairment" ... Impairment... has.

If the writer had written, "Growth and cognitive development have been impaired." Then the subject would be plural and would take 'have' as the verb form.
