what is the meaning of the 'for'?

what is the meaning of the 'for'?

    Hi, everybody:

I have seen the sentence below in a book of English grammar:

'I am here for six weeks.'

What is the meaning of the 'for'?

    There are two explanations below:

    1. a duration that 'I' want, plan, etc.

    2. a duration

    Which explanation above is correct?

    Thanks a lot in advance.
