    commission

    Hi,teachers,
Publishers have commissioned a French translation of the book.
Could you tell me what 'commission' mean as a verb?
I still don't know after looking it up in my dictionary.
    Thank you.

To commission a book, a piece of artwork etc. is to engage somebody to produce/write/paint it.
