    Wouldn't or Didn't?

    Hello all,

Which one of the two following sentences is correct?

    1) I asked her the reason but she wouldn't tell me.

    2) I asked her the reason but she didn't tell me.

I have always been confused about the usage of 'Wouldn't' & 'Didn't' in such sentences.

    Help is highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    vinod

As BC said, either is correct. The sentences, however, have slightly different meanings.

#1 has the idea that 'she was not prepared/willing to tell me'. If 'would' is stressed, then the meaning comes closer to 'she refused to tell me'.
    #2 simply reports the non-telling.
