Locally we pronounce it as "BARE" -- we do not stretch out the "y".
I have heard other natives pronounce it differently. I have never heard "BAY-ER" (two sounds) for a point of reference.

Perhaps influenced by my knowledge of German, I have always thought of it as pronounced in the German way, vaguely similar to the English 'buyer', with a shorter vowel in the first syllable. I'd always assumed this was correct, but I haven't actually heard other native speakers saying the name.

It's definitely "bare" in the US. I've worked with them and their US headquarters is in my hometown.

(This doesn't mean that's how Europeans say it. In the US "Nestle" rhymes with bumblebee.)
