1--The worst has yet to come.

2--The worst is yet to come.

Are both sentences good English? If yes, is there any nuance between the two?

They are both correct and I can't see much (if any) difference between the two.

"The worst is yet to come" gets about 4 times more hits on google than "The worst has yet to come". I suspect that it is because the "is" version is a little more natural to contemporary users of English.

Hi LiuJing,

IMO, the way they are written, only #2 sounds natural. You couls rephrase #1: The worst has not come/arrived yet; this sounds natural too.

I disagree - see my post above. "The worst has not come/arrived yet" sounds less idiomatic that the two sentences in the original question.

Disagreement noted. Correction accepted and duly thanked.
