    Is one comma enough?

According to an article in last Sundays' newspaper, the number of eleven aside teams playing competitive football in England has fallen by nearly three thousand over the last 5 years.

    Re: Is one comma enough?

I'm pretty sure that's how I'd write it. Where might you put another comma?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Is this not additional information to the sentence and therefore needs to be seperated using oammas?

Hmm. . .I suppose you could use that construction to emphasise the large number.

As a simple statement of fact the extra commas are unnecessary.
