    wander or...?

Can the verb "wander" be used for cars too? or it merely means walking without any clear purpose?
The context is: a driver gets lost in the streets of a big city...he says: "It was 10:00 p.m. and I was still ...........in the streets"
    Any alternative If it's wrong?

    thanks in advance.

    Re: wander or...?

I think it`s ight beacause in the dictionary ir doesn`t say "to walk", but "to move". I think that "wander" or "roam" are two perfect options for the context. The definition of "stroll" says that it is to walk along somewhere in a slow unhurried way, especially for enjoyment.

You can't use 'wander', which implies 'walk' (apart from when it's used metaphorically).

I would suggest, "I was still driving aimlessly round the streets".
