Yes, it's possible that after translation it would need further preparation before publication.

So this question is kind of ambiguous. Two possible answers with a change in meaning. How would you advise to choose the right one when it's test and there is no context?

No, not ambiguous just a different meaning.
Using B means that preparation is necessary before translating.
Using D means that after tranlsation the article needs more work, maybe to make it fully understood. Sometimes translation can be very difficult to get precisely the same meanings in the other language.
Neither A nor C are acceptable.

That's what I meant. It's very hard to mark the right answer. How would you tell the difference between the expected correct answer and presumably wrong one?

That's a very good point Verona, the lack of a comma makes D wrong.
