    Re: contradictory hopes

    Hi Silverobama

As a NES, but not a teacher:

What I believe it means is that he has many hopes, dreams and ambitions etc that may be mutually exclusive e.g. he wants to be a really great educator of underpriviledged young children, which may not make him rich (financially), but he also wants to be able to afford to drive a flashy new sports car.

    Hope this helps
