    Re: girl, daughter,boy,son,wife,woman,husband,man

If I had only one child, I would not say "My girl is 10."

If I had two children, a boy and a girl, I may say "My girl is 10 and my boy is 8." I don't think it's "much more formal" to say "daughter" than it is to say "girl."

Please note it should be "it's more formal" or perhaps "it's very forma" but not "it's much formal."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
