Is there any possibility of considering the following sentence correct?

"Was she told the news yet?"

No. it should be "Has she been told the news yet?"

I do wonder what is wrong with that sentence. I fully agree that 'Has she been...' is correct English. But why not 'Was she told...?

That's a good point. Americans sometimes say "Did you hear the news yet?". I wonder if it's possible or ever said "Was she told the news yet?"?

Was she told the news.
This is correct, but the 'yet' is not right this time. This is more a matter of usage and the right feel for the language.
'Was she told'. The implication here is that the inquiry refers to a specific time.
'Has she been told'. The implication here is that the inquiry refers to her being told or not at any time.
'Has she been told yet'. This carries the inquiry further with the implication that she has to be told but if not yet then when.
This could arise at a death when one party, she, has to be told but the time of telling is important.
