    mowed down

"In a cubicle enviroment, it's much more difficult. Status gets mowed down. This uniformity takes away a person's uniqueness."

What would be the meaning of "gets mowed down"? I can only imagine what it could possibly mean. Dictionaries don't give a definition that would fit in this context. What I looked up are "destroy, kill and overwhelm".

Overwhelmed. Cubicles tend to make people the same, so they overwhelm the impact of status.
