The root of vulnerable is the Latin word for wound.

Things you are vulnerable to will definitely harm you if they happen to you. But vulnerability does not imply that such things are very likely to occur.

Things that you are susceptible to may or may not be harmful. You might, for example, be susceptible to harmless but embarrassing fits of giggling. But susceptibility implies that such things are rather likely to occur.
