    Zero article

    * He asked the one in the wrong, "Why are you hitting your fellow?" The man said, "Who made you ruler and judge over us?"

    * Who made you king of anything?"

In both sentences, ruler, judge and king are all countable nouns. But they have no article before them. What kind of grammar is applied to this zero-article case?

If you look at all these nouns, they could all be official titles: King, Judge, Ruler ...
This is highlighted if you consider, "Who made you the official spokesperson for our group?" = "Who made you Spokesperson?"
Some other examples: "Who made you referee, umpire, arbitrator ... of any other function that a person takes upon themself.
