What is the difference between "got hit" and "was hit"?

ex) A: Did you hear about the accident?
B: What happened?
A: A bicycle was hit by a taxi in front of Seoul Station.

I guess "was hit" is some action done already, while "got hit" describes the state change like "come to be hit". Is it correct?

 To me, they mean the same. Apart from that, got hit is more informal in many situations.

 ...generally right, but 'got hit' can have an implication of fault on the part of the person who was hit: 'Sometimes people get hit - usually the stupid ones.'

Adding a reflexive object pronoun makes the fault even clearer: if someone 'gets himself hit' it "ain't nobody's fault but his"! ;-)
