Hi

In this sentence I wonder why do we use present perfect tense?

Three wizards of the first order have been born for the last thousand years.

It's a sentence from "Legend of the Seeker".I was watching it and suddenly it stuck to my head.

Hi

In this sentence I wonder why do we use present perfect tense?

Three wizards of the first order have been born for the last thousand years.

It's a sentence from "Legend of the Seeker".I was watching it and suddenly it stuck to my head.

I was going to give you some explainations but I decided to write two examples for you.

1-(we are watching second half of a football match between England and Germany)
Germany have scored 3 goals so far.

2-(2 weeks after)
Germany scored 4 goals in the match 2 weeks ago.

In the first example we have seen 3 goals by germany since the begining of the match. In your sentence likewise we have had 3 wizards since 1000 years ago.

So in present perfect tense there is no specific time but THERE İS A PROCESS??

If we say that something happened in this process like before 100 years ago and up to now
we must use the present perfect right?

I am not a teacher.

Your quotation is not English. You can't use that tense with "for" like that. It has to be, "Three wizards of the first order have been born in the last thousand years."

By the way, it stuck in your head.

Yes, if you're including the time up until now, you use the present perfect.
"So far, I've collected three hundred different beer labels." BUT
"Last year, I collected three hundred different beer labels."
