    Smile tne meaning of "bat"

    In this sentence,I don't understand the meaning of "bat".
    "And tabby batted....Bat went her paw ton the glass. "No batting," said Mr.Putter. Bat.Bat.Bat."
    Please tell me the meaning of the word"bat".

    I am not a teacher.

    The online dictionaries I looked at do not give a very good definition for this use of the verb "to bat". It means to hit, of course, but to hit in that special way that a cat hits something with a paw without using its claws, often "bat at".
