Hi, I was just listening to The Verve's song and I was wondering what this phrase means.

Here is an excerpt from the lyrics:
I want to tell you my tale
How I fell in love and jumped out on my bail

Is it an idiom or just Ashcroft's expression?

not a teacher

I've never heard "jump out of bail". But "Jump bail" is an expression. Bail of course is a security bond that one posts with law enforcement to secure one's temporary release from jail. To jump bail means to flee law enforcement after posting bail and being released. Someone who jumps bail would not appear for their appointed court date.

THX, however, that's what I've found. But it does not make so much sense for me in the context of the lyrics.
