    A thunderstorm

Please, check if the following passage is grammatically correct. Thanks

Saturday, February 5, which had been announced by opposition members as a Rage Day against the regime, passed without leaving any mark on the capital. No one came out to demonstrate in the streets against Mr. x and his regime. The only storm which hit the country was a thunderstorm and lightning which was followed by long- awaited rains all over the country after many years of drought. This played in favor of the authorities as it probably deterred potential protesters form taking to the streets to demonstrate.
