    calling the role

    Hi again,

I'm aware that if you have a list of, say, students or members of a board, you call the roll to check if everybody is present at a meeting.

However, what do you say when there is a roll pinned up on a notice board and students/members put a tick next to their names as a kind of check. Do they sign the roll? Do they tick it? ????

    Thnks

I've also seen/used 'sign up' - even when no signatures are involved.

For me, 'signing up/on' is what we do at the beginning of a course, but I could 'sign in' when I tick off my name. How do others feel?

The way I use sign up in that sense (course enrolment) is 'sign up for...'
