Improving English with a native

Hello Everyone!

I need some advice to learn English in the following situation:
I'm from Europe, I have a neighbour from the USA with who I meet to practise my English (and he practises my native language as well) once a week for one hour. (He is well-educated so he speaks good English.) The level of my English is around intermediate or upper. I would like to improve my speaking skills as much as possible. Unfortunately sometimes I run out of exercises or things to talk about and barely have idea what to do.

So could you tell some ways how I could prepare my lessons so that I could improve my speaking skills? I have tried role plays and some daily things that I took as a topic to talk about.

What about watching a popular English film (your friend can watch in English OR a translated version) and then discuss the movie? Discuss the plot, the characters, or other aspects of the film.
