    Is 'weaken' the right word?

    Let's say that somebody's skin is burning from medications and I'm saying,

    "I wonder when it stops [the burning] or at least weakens some."

    Is 'weakens' the right word here? What else could I use?

    I suggest "lessens" rather than "weakens".

    You could also use "abates."
