What is this called, and what are the rules on this? Examples:
"I went to the store, the car shop and the gas station before going home."
"The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the water supply, to evaluate the emergency programs, and to discuss several items with the managment team."

You can omit the in such expressions where the objects referred to are normally associated with each other [the book and (the) copybook]. More on it here: repeating determiners
