Singular vs. plural

"We, Party Maniax, are a young and dynamic party promoter."

The above sentence sounds awkward to me, but I'm not entirely convinced it's wrong. If the author is talking about "we" as a whole, it may be correct to write "a party promoter" instead of "party promoters." Is it?

It's certainly awkward in AmE. I would also say that it's wrong. Your suggestion is far better. Wait for a comment from a BrE-speaker.

We, General Motors, are an old and enormous car company.
We, Farm Fresh Market, are a trusted and reliable vegetable seller.

What's the difference between my sentences and yours? I agree that they all sound a little awkward, and I would never have expressed myself that way; however, I can't find anything wrong with them.

Here is a speaker of BrE: I agree with those who feel that it may sound awkward, but it's not wrong. It is the company that is a promoter of things. Mykwyner's useful examples provided support for this idea.
