Two lawers , who were just co-defending in the court, are having a quarel outside the courtroom after one's client gets a heavy sentence and the other's gets a light one.Part of their conversation goes as follow:
-Don't patronize me.
-Why not? You're behaving like a child. You clearly hadn't read the naes.
So what's meaning of "naes" here ?
Any help will be much appreciated.

If you heard this, you probably mis-heard it. I know of no word 'naes'.

If you read it, how was it written - naes, n.a.e.s., NAES? It may be an abbreviation for something.

There's a similar word in the context of parliament/formal debating: the ayes [=votes in favour] and the nays. You could count nays, but not read them. Perhaps it's legal jargon that means 'texts that give a dissenting opinion':?:

Here's a video where the dialogue comes from. They won't let me watch it here in Poland, but they say you still have a month if you're in the UK. Maybe it could help solve the problem. It should be about 00:19:20 according to the subtitle file I've found.

"Nays." When people vote it is either "aye" or "nay."

This lawyer's client just got convicted and sentenced. The other lawyer seems to be saying that first lawyer did not have a good understanding of the feelings of the jury (he could not "read" the "nays.")

Since they are outside the courtroom, it could also be "the news."
Especially if these lawyers are from New York.

Sure, it's not. They won't show it to a person who abandoned their country!
Abandoned? I left it to spread its language and culture among the benighted heathen.

So that's where Rupert Penry- Jones is!

I almost went into mourning when he was written out
(killed in a car bombing) of the MI-5 series. His character's name was "Adam."

We don't get this Silk series in the US. Boo hoo.

...

I also think its nays. Maybe a Scot had done the subtitles?

I thought the same, as the /eɪ/ diphthong does show up in strange (to me ;-)) places in Scottish phonology. But I don't know (dinna ken) what, if anything 'nothes' might mean (because 'claes' = 'clothes').

You are really good!It makes sense to me now.And my gratitude also goes to the others who have also responed to my question. And I'm really ashamed of the spelling mistakes I made. But the "naes" is indeed the original .Iwill check my spelling more carefully next time.Thank you all again.

I think what they mean here are NAEs, Notices of Additional Evidence (I saw the programme with subtitles). From the website of legalservices.gov.uk/criminal/cds_news_9582.asp : "The CPS will start to print running totals of PPE on the front sheet of all new bundles and Notices of Additional Evidence (NAEs). There will be a running total for statements, exhibits and photographs and the combined total will be the PPE."

"You clearly hadn't read the NAE's."

NAE's are notices of additional evidence. In the courtroom, moments before the sentences were passed, counsel for the male accused asked the judge if he had read the notices of additional evidence.

The BBC link tells me "not available in your area" but here is a link that worked for me. It may work for you as well.

Watch Silk Season 1 Episode 1 | Tv-Junky

Addendum: I guess I was busy watching the program and so missed the response from Pitrans.
