    Which is best?

Celeste was filled with more terror at what Leon said and told him that he and his men leave the place or he is dead if Gab gets harmed.

Celeste was filled with more terror at what Leon said and told him that he and his men leave the place or he would be accountable to her if Gab gets harmed.

Celeste was filled with more terror at what Leon said and told him that he and his men leave the place or he would answer to her if Gab gets harmed.

Celeste was filled with terror at what Leon said. She told him that he and his men must leave the place; they would answer to her if Gab were harmed.

    Why is it 'were'?

    Re: Which is best?

Also, can I use 'with' instead of 'at'? Celeste was filled with terror with what Leon said.

    Subjunctive.
Many native speakers of BrE would happily use 'was' here.

    Re: Which is best?

Can I rephrase it like this?

Celeste got more terrified with what Leon said.

(Note: Celeste was filled with terror earlier on.)

Is it correct? Also, is the use of 'with' correct?

You can be filled with something, but only terrified by it, in my opinion.

How come you did not correct 'filled with terror AT'? Can I use by here? How is 'Celeste was filled with terror at what Leon said' interpreted in this context?

    Thanks so much! :)

Because it is acceptable. In my last post it would have been better if I had not used the word 'only'. I should have written:

You can be filled, but not terrified with something, in my opinion.
