It is polite enough for most situations (friends, family) but thank you is more polite when dealing with strangers/coworkers/boss.

When in doubt, use thank you.

It depends on your relationship to your boss and if you work in a very casual environment. Thank you would be more appropriate.

Thank you very much would be more polite when speaking to your boss, a stranger, or somebody older than you (grandparents, etc).
