It sounds like you have made a "rub." Rubs can be dry spices or a thick, damp paste.

So you can apply the rub, or rub the mixture into the skin.

If it is more of a sauce, you can brush it on the meat.

You can also baste the meat with the sauce.

You can also spoon the mixture over the chicken.
