The term is usually used to describe a condition usually in a child who is temporarily hyperactive presumably because he/she has consumed too much sugar in the form of a confection such as candy.

    Re: sugar rush

A "sugar rush" is a sudden burst of energy one feels after ingesting a large amount of sugar. Not necessarily a heaping spoonful of raw sugar, but rather some snack that is laden with sugar. Children are particularly susceptible to the effects of sugar, which is why certain candies like Pixy Stix would seemingly make them hyperactive after ingestion. However, they usually don't consciously know that the sugary candy is what making them so energetic. They just like the sweet taset of it. Adults, on the other hand, are well aware of the power of sugar, and it is quite common for an adult to eat a candy bar or some other sweet during the day when they're feeling sleepy and need that "sugar rush" to get some work done.
