    Definite article

    Is the second definite article in the sentence below necessary? The sentence sounds better to me with it.

    Since both the transfer and the nationality rules contravened Article 39, the Court deemed it unnecessary to answer the questions referred with respect to Articles 81 and 82.

    It may not be necessary but, in a legal document, it removes any possibility of doubt.
