    wood shavings

    'A guinea pig can live in a hutch or a cage. Cover the bottom with wood shavings and hay.'

    What is wood shavings? It's not found in dictionary.

    Not really. Saw dust is nearly powder. Wood shavings are chips of wood about 1/4 in by 1/4in. Most animal beds are suggested to have chips/shavings.

    When you use a saw, sawdust is produced.
    When you use a plane, wood shavings are produced.
