    in a day

What is the difference between the two sentences. Which is acceptable?

    (1) The woman can drink two bottles of beer a day.
    (2) The woman can drink two bottles of beer in a day.

There's not much difference between these two.

    (1) Slightly emphasizes the amount of beer beer drank per day.
    (2) Slighly emphasizes the drinking is completed within one day.
