    The usage of would

Where would I have money? I really don't have a single cent. I don't even have money for lunch.

Is there anyone who can explain to me the meaning of the underlined sentence and the usage of 'would' in it?

In what context did you see this question?

    Re: The usage of would

I think in this context, the use of "would" is because the speaker assumes that it is impossible or highly unlikely that he will be able to find some money in a short period of time.

    Am I right?

    Re: The usage of would

The statement could be rephrased this way:
    .
If I have any money I would like you to tell me where it is.
    (Awaiting further contributions.)

    Re: The usage of would

Maybe "Where would I get money?" "To obtain" rather than "to have".

    Re: The usage of would

I would say "Where would I find money"...

    Re: The usage of would

I would interpret 'have' here in the literal, physical sense of 'hold/keep/store' (cf. I have the documents here in my wallet), the whole therefore being an elliptical counterfactual, meaning Where would I have/keep money, even if I possessed any?
