    What kind of receiver?

Can anyone help me with the following sentence:

He jogged along, dodging trees like a slow-motion parody of a wide receiver heading for the end zone.

Can't understand the second half of the comparition.

    Thank you

    Re: What kind of receiver?

A 'wide receiver' is a player in American Football. (To say more than that would take me way outside my comfort zone! )

I am not going to explain the whole sentence to you. I think you can understand it very well after studying about these three terms: "parody","wide reciever" and "end zone" (both former terms are about American football). You probably know what is "slow-motion". Take a look at this pages:

Parody - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wide receiver - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

About Football Glossary - End Zone

"The way he was acting was like a slow-motion scene of a forward heading to the goal, but the way he was doing that was funny because there were just some threes and no other players." (I couldn't resist the temptation to explain it).

    Re: What kind of receiver?

like a slow-motion parody of a wide receiver heading for the end zone.

This is a simile to decribe "how" he galloped through the trees. Similes begin with the word, "like"

A wide receiver (football player) runs down the field, moving in a zig zag style, to the end of the field (to get into position to catch the ball). It is an athletic, skillful run.

    Re: What kind of receiver?

Thank you all. Those football terms were unknown to me, actuallly. Your explanations were the most helpful, thanks again!
