    fist-punch the air

May the expression "fist-punched the air" be used to show disappointment?

as in "Damn it, " he said, fist-punching the air.
if not, can you say "punched the air with his fist in disappointment?"

    Re: fist-punch the air

For me, a punch always involves a fist, so I would say:

"Damn it," he said, punching the air.
"He punched the air in disappointment?"

Actually, I would not use 'punch the air' at all, but I have heard it used.
